Who is Jesus Christ and what is His mission to the world?

Is certainly a logical question to ask. He changed the world in only 30 years on earth, and no one has had more of an impact on this planet than Jesus Christ. This is, after all, His planet.

Psalms 97:1-6 says, "The LORD reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice. Clouds and thick darkness surround him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne. Fire goes before him and consumes his foes on every side. His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles. The mountains melt like wax before the LORD, before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim his righteousness, and all the peoples see his glory."

There is no surer sign of Christ's divinity than 2000 years after His death people and demons still tremble at His name. Many shudder upon hearing His powerful name; there is no other name that has power like that of Jesus.

The Bible attributes this phenomenon to the fact that Jesus is God. His message is love, and as 1 John 4:8 tells us, God is love. Although His message and His acts were selfless, His teaching focused on Himself. "Follow me;" "I am the light;" "I am the way the truth and the life, and no one comes to the Father except through me."

Christ claimed to be God. Even in the Bible, people asked, "Who is Jesus?"

"I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "Before Abraham was born, I AM!"

Proclaiming He was God was not Jesus' mission. What is His mission to the world? His three-year mission was not to convert people to His cause. Although Christ ministered to many people, John the Baptist was better known throughout the Roman Empire. The Apostle Paul influenced thousands to follow Jesus, compared to Jesus Himself who only had 120 supporters shortly after His death.

The mission of Jesus was prophesied in Isaiah 7:14-15: "Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. He will eat curds and honey when he knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right."

Jesus was also fully human. Jesus became tired, hungry, sad, and angry. He went to work as other men, and most importantly, He was tempted. Immanuel means "God with us." Jesus came to experience humanity, so as a human He could pay the price for the crimes of humanity. Our sins have been nailed to the cross, and we bear them no more.

God is the judge, and humanity is the offender. The judge is the only one who can name the penalty, and the offender is the only one who can pay the atonement. Therefore, in order to pay the atonement on behalf of humanity, God had to become human. The penalty has been paid in full, and the decision to accept the payment on your behalf is yours.
